Modalities & Methods

Therapeutic Approaches May Include

Person-Centered Counseling

Person-centered counseling is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes creating a non-judgmental, empathetic environment where clients feel valued and understood, allowing them to explore their feelings and self-concept freely. The therapist acts as a supportive facilitator, helping clients harness their own inner resources to achieve personal growth and self-actualization.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy technique designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation, typically through guided eye movements. The process aims to reduce the emotional intensity of these memories, allowing the brain to reframe and integrate them in a healthier way.

Strength-Based Interventions

This type of therapy focuses on a patient’s strengths and capabilities to promote their well-being. These interventions are based on the idea that working with a patient’s strengths is key to change, and they can be used in a variety of settings, including psychotherapy, social work, and mental health recovery.

Gottman Couples Therapy

Gottman Couples Therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps couples strengthen their relationships by focusing on key aspects like communication, conflict resolution, and emotional connection. Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the therapy uses practical interventions and tools to build trust, manage conflict constructively, and foster deeper intimacy.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Focuses on the intersectionality of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s adaptable for children and individuals with neurodivergence, and also considers how trauma affects thoughts and behaviors. It’s a common treatment for mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, but can also be used to treat physical conditions and other mental health issues.

Motivational Interviewing

Centers on encouraging an individual to discover the internal motivation they need to change behaviors. Motivational interviewing is a practical short-term process that relies on empathy as one of its foundational elements. It can also prepare individuals for further, more specific types of therapies that require a higher level of commitment.

Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Promotes psychological flexibility through acceptance, mindfulness, awareness of personal values, and taking committed action to manage emotional distress. ACT aims to develop and expand psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility encompasses emotional openness and the ability to adapt your thoughts and behaviors to better align with your values and goals.
